I was not impressed at all with the food. The fried rice was crunchy, and was nothing like any fried rice I've ever had (just rice nothing else). My broccoli was barely partially cooked. I was charged an additional $2 for asking for soy sauce and salt packets, I almost died laughing when my "adjusted receipt" was emailed to me (I ordered online for pickup).... $2 for soy sauce and salt!!! I even gave them a tip for a pickup order (my choice) and they charged me for soy sauce and salt! I will definitely not return to this restaurant.
I was looking up the phone number of this place on Google today and I noticed the large number of negative reviews. What gives? I work down the street from this restaurant and I have been eating their food for years. During that time, I have never once had a bad meal or a bad experience. And, look, I'm not trying to discredit anyone else's experience here — I can only speak to my own. Those of us working in the Gunbarrel/Niwot region don't have many quick lunch options without driving to either Boulder or Longmont. I like Fan's Chinese and I order from this restaurant frequently. If you're not familiar with the cuisine, it's Americanized Chinese. They may or may not make traditional Cantonese fare upon request (I've never asked), but the menu is varied and cheap with plenty of vegetarian options. I haven't ever taken a tour of the place, but the kitchen looks pretty clean to me and the staff has always been helpful and friendly. To be totally honest, I don't understand the criticism. As a regular, I have zero complaints.
This place is a hazard even without Covid-19. Check out the cob webs hanging from the ceiling, or the dust on the plants in the dining area. Can you imagine how clean the kitchen is? Dirty dirty dirty.
Food tasted metallic and the service was... just pretty poor, kind of a rude staff. I don't know where they got the reviews saying that they got good service. The guy at the front is very rude.
I just had a very poor experience attempting to place a delivery order online with Fan's Chinese. The website shows "free delivery" with an order over $20, however, after placing the order, I received a phone call from the restaurant offering to lower my price by $2 if I drove to pick up the order instead of getting it delivered. When I refused this offer and said that I would like delivery like I ordered, I was told that my "delivery tip wasn't big enough" and that I would need to increase my delivery tip in order for them to actually deliver my food. I had them cancel my order. Fan's Chinese used to be our go-to takeout place in Boulder, but they have lost as customers because of this extremely disappointing treatment we received.
