This is our favorite takeout in Longmont. It's nothing fancy but it's great for the price! Service is generally fabulous and food is delivered quickly. Highly recommend, we love the spicy jungle noodles, pan friend noodles, and the panang curry!
My go-to restaurant in Longmont for Chinese takeout. I especially like their hot and sour soup and have enjoyed several of their entrees like Happy Family and Walnut Shrimp. The Egg Foo Young was just ok although to their credit, I don't see it on many menus locally. I usually pick up my order as they have ample off-street parking on 3rd, a few blocks east of Main. They also have free delivery within a 4 mile radius.
Ordered online: order got doubled when I got there. No confirmation email or text to notify me that the order was received, when it will be ready, or that it was ready. Just a terrible experience. Food was alright, but go to Tasty Asia instead.
Alright so my wife and I have eaten at almost every chinese restaurant in Longmont. When Spicy House originally opened over a decade a go, the food seemed good. However, I can only describe my experience politely as sub par for the $54 it cost me. That said, delivery was extremely fast and the driver was tipped 18%. We ordered : Egg custard buns, Egg Rolls, beef skewers, (free crab cheese wontons), Sesame beef, vegetable Lo Mein, Curry Shrimp, Extra rice(quart). The main dishes are supposed to come with a side of rice. We ordered the extra one to have extra and got shorted... On rice, by a pint. Really? Moving on. Next up was the egg custard buns. They appeared to still have the wax paper on them from when they left the steamer, so naturally they were stuck to the buns. Ratio of custard to bun was 20% custard, 80% bun. Usually it's more like 40/60 in a typical bun, and these were clearly mass produced from frozen. We ordered egg rolls, and spring rolls showed up instead. The cream cheese wontons, while free, were not completely cooked. I can't knock free so I'm not docking points here, but I'm letting people know that if they pay for them, they will get chewy wontons. Ratio of filling was good though, definitely A+. Beef skewers were 1/16 inch thick, 1/2" to 3/4" tall, and 6 to a box, so be aware that the portion is small Curry shrimp had maybe 10 shrimp in the whole container (41/50 size if anyone wants to know) and the rest of it was vegetables, so about 3 ounces of shrimp. Sesame beef had only one broccoli floret for the entire box though and no other vegetables and was pretty sweet, definitely the sweetest sesame sauce in town, and no box chunks, all small chunks, no crunch. Depending on what you like this can be a plus. Once our order was placed, the food was here in under 15 minutes. This tells me their food isn't fresh and is likely precooked. Even with a deepfryer the logistics of my order coming so quickly was impossible unless it was created beforehand. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt though because 20 minutes went by before I realized the random number that called me was the restaurant to say my card was declined, even though they didn't leave a message, but called twice. Overall we just won't be coming back. It's unfortunate but I'm not sure how many mistakes could be made in an order unless they didn't care and the food was premade. I certainly didn't make an error putting in the card number online as I used the saved google chrome data I use to order all the time. Maybe your mileage will vary, but I'm just here to share our experience. I don't like writing negative reviews, but I felt compelled that it would be due diligence to do it in this case.
Came back for a 2nd visit tonight, ordered the same meal as last time, but the portion size I received was 1/2 what it was last time (they used a much smaller plastic container for the meal). My meal was NOT WORTH THE PRICE FOR THE SMALL PORTION SIZE and will take my business anywhere else but here in the future. Downhill so fast?
