I have reviewed this before and as always it's a fun place. While it is not in the description Dickens Opera House is above Dickens tavern. They are related but work as two separate entities. The opera house has a very large stage with live entertainment all the time. The new menu is smaller but packed full of goodness. The blackened grouper over rice with balsamic was incredible!
We keep giving this place a try and it keeps getting more and more disappointing. We came early for dinner, it is almost empty and service is very slow. We get informed when are food was ready 2 of the sides are not in tonight. How do you not have mashed potatoes?? Had to send one of the steaks back, a medium steak was shoe leather. I could tell just by looking at it. The next steak was a completely different cut but at least cooked correctly. My filet was flavorless other than the burnt end. The meals come with set sides if you ask to "substitute" you pay full price for the "substituted" item. The saving grace the last time we had come was an outstanding waiter, that was not the case this time. Probably will not give them another chance for a long time.
My friend and I had a delicious dinner at the Dickens this past Saturday night during the art walk event in downtown Longmont. Our service was excellent and the atmosphere in the dining room was so relaxing. I really think the Dickens is great and it is one of my favorite places to eat. The staff are friendly and professional. We are going back again this week to try something different.
First time visiting tonight and my wife and I traveled from Denver to visit family. We didn't have a reservation but were seated pretty quickly regardless. I felt bad not making a reservation, but the hostess was assuring in that they could accommodate our large party. You can tell that the owners and staff take very good care of the old building and we loved all of our dishes. I had the Filet and it was perfectly cooked-I like rare myself and my wife had the Halibut. We will definitely make the trip and come back to our new favorite spot!
Good atmosphere. The food was okay but not amazing. Huge stack of pancakes but they were kinda doughy and undercooked. The omelettes we're really small but tasted pretty good.
